Abstract


This action research project investigated the engagement and achievement in the writing of 11 anglophone senior level French students. The aim was to see if using the web-based grammar and spell checker BonPatronPro would increase engagement and achievement levels. The students completed eight writing tasks over six months using the program to correct work. Changes in linguistic accuracy (achievement) were found among those who wrote at least six compositions, who verified their work (engagement) more than 40 times and who engaged in follow-up reflections. The reflection process will be the focus for the second cycle of the action research.
